Key Business Tax Deadlines for January 2026

January 15 - Employer’s Monthly Tax Deposits

If you are an employer subject to monthly deposit rules, ensure that you remit your December 2025 Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income taxes by January 15. This is also when you need to make nonpayroll withholding deposits if applicable. Remember, all employment tax deposits should be submitted electronically, except for organizations with less than $2,500 in deposit liabilities per return period, who can pay quarterly or annually.

If you earn your income primarily through farming or fishing, you are required to pay your estimated 2025 tax using Form 1040-ES by January 15. Alternatively, you must file your 2025 income tax return (Form 1040 or 1040-SR) and settle any due taxes by March 2, 2026, to avoid penalties for underpayment.

Handling Weekends and Holidays:

Should a deadline coincide with a weekend or legal holiday, the due date will automatically extend to the subsequent business day that isn't a holiday, simplifying your scheduling concerns.
